Summer Project- Dog Show

For my summer project the aim was to make a dog which would be presented in a crufts style dog show in the park as a way of getting to know fellow students and staff. When I first read the brief the idea of making a dog from scratch was a little daunting as i had no idea where to begin. However once I started discussing it with famil and friends ideas came more easily. I used a pattern of a scotty dog but altered the size of it. I wanted m dog to be quite large.

I used a very light and almost transparent material for the actual body of the dog, this proved quite difficult as it was quite flimsy and difficult to stay in place.

I added buttons to the dogs tail for more detail and hopes of it becoming more like a textile piece than a toy dog. As the majority of my dog was white I wanted the detail to be more colourful, I chose earthy tones such as reds, oranges and browns for this. I also thought those colours tied in quite nicely with summer.

I added four handmade textile patches to my dog, two on each side of the body. I wanted to give my dog more detail and texture. I hoped by using different materials on these patches this would achieve that.

When it came to stuffing my dog I wanted the earth colours to continue so i dyed my wadding in tea and coffee, this worked relatively well as when you look closely at the dog you can see that the insides are a yellow colour.

To improve my dog i would take more time when it came to putting it together, I prefer to work with surfaces and texture so making something look representational and assembleing the dog was quite a challenge for me.
